New chair at MPS Foundation

The MPS Foundation has appointed Professor Gozie Offiah as its new chair.

Offiah has been a member of the MPS Foundation – a global not-for-profit research initiative part of Medical Protection Society – since 2022. She has a background in surgery and practised medicine for more than 15 years in the Health Service Executive Ireland.

She is currently an associate professor and the director of curriculum at the RCSI, University of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as the co-chair of tEACH, the teaching arm of the International Association of Communication in Healthcare. She has recently completed her role as the foundational clinical lead for the National Intern Training programme in the Health Service Executive.

Offiah takes over the role from Dr Graham Stokes, who was recently appointed chair of MPS Council.

Commenting on her appointment, she said: ‘I am delighted and honoured to be the next Chair of the MPS Foundation. During my time on the MPS Foundation Board, we have supported various valuable research projects from across the globe. In the past 12 months, some of the funded projects include the following: examining the impacts of patient suicides on clinicians in the UK, the experiences of female physicians around fertility and family planning in Ireland, the compatibility of informed consent and individual autonomy with African traditional values in South Africa, and much more.’

‘I look forward to continuing this fantastic work of the MPS Foundation, which enables MPS members to provide better care for their patients while improving their wellbeing. I want to thank Graham for all that the MPS Foundation has achieved during his time as Chair and wish him all the best in his new role as MPS Council chair.’
